Roadside Cleanup Day

Saturday, April 28th, 9:00 am. to noon

The Conservation Commission will provide trash bags

Please meet at the Brick School House parking lot at 9:00 on Saturday morning to pick up trash bags. We will be cleaning up Rt. 123, and as much of Rt. 124 as possible, although anyone can pick up trash on any of the other town roads.

If you get the special blue trash bags on Saturday morning, they can be left alongside either of the highways, as well as Jarmany Hill Road and Spring Hill Road. The state highway crew will pick up these bags and dispose of the trash bags. There is no need to sort the material before placing it in the bags. Tires and other large items can be left with the bags for pickup.

If you have any questions, call Ken Callahan at 924-3726.

Spring Cleaning in Sharon

The Town of Sharon is working to gather any & all documents, records, photos, etc. pertaining to the Town & its residents.  Over the years, a good number of items related to the town have migrated into many homes throughout the community (ledgers, town records, town histories, etc.).

The goal is to fully develop a centralized location within the Sharon Town Hall in which all items will be catalogued, archived and fully accessible to all within & outside of Sharon.   A climate-controlled archive is located in the lower level of the Sharon Town Hall building; storage in this facility will help to ensure the preservation of Sharon’s present & past history, as well as create a more complete historical record of who we are and what we’ve accomplished.

Examples of items sought include town ledgers, copies of marriage certificates/death certificates, photos of town gatherings/ events, photos of houses, homesteads & residents, newspaper articles, family histories, etc.  In short, any & all items related to the Town & its residents.   If the donor wishes to retain the original document, a means of copying/scanning the document for town archive use will be available.

To submit items to the archives or for any questions, please contact Tracy Tanner Craig at 924-3858.

Planning Board - Change of Meeting Date

The Sharon Planning Board is moving its April meeting from Tuesday, April 10 to Monday, April 9, 6:00 PM at the Meeting House.

Harry Dermody - Resignation

At their meeting last night, the Selectmen accepted Harry Dermody's resignation as Selectman.  Harry has also submitted a letter of resignation from the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

In his letter to the Selectmen Harry said, "It has been an honor and privilege to have served this wonderful town and residents over the years."

"I have given my all," he continued, "to help preserve, protect and administer with honesty, integrity and fairness.  Please know I love this town and thank the residents for their support over the years.  God bless you all."

The Selectmen accepted Harry's resignation with great regret, but with gratitude for all he has done in service to Sharon.  The Selectmen will appoint an individual to fill the position until the next election in March 2013.

Burning Prohibited

Due to the exceptionally dry conditions, no burn permits will be issued the Town of Sharon until further notice.
